Switch Rooms

Many telecommunication facilities or "switch rooms" are installed in high-rise office buildings because of their proximity to fiber optic lines and customers. The needs of these facilities are unique in comparison to that of a typical office space. Switch rooms require a larger than normal; amperage of electrical power, volume of conditioned air, structural floor load capacity, and fire protection. In efforts to protect the facility in the event of a fire and prevent water damage to the equipment, unique fire protection systems are used. The two most common fire protection systems are "dry pipe pre-action sprinkler system" or FM-200 systems.
